Bambino Crayons

I've just discovered a fab new brand of crayons by Bambino. When I'm creating colouring sheets I always love trying out new art materials I can use in photos and workshops. I've pretty much avoided crayons, particularly wax as I dislike the texture and mess, then I spied these new clay formula crayons and I just had to try them. I've used them to colour in an Afternoon Tea themed colouring sheet I designed last year.

Bambino are unlike crayons I've used before, I often colour in and draw with my 2 year old nephew. Even he has moved on from wax crayons as I think he found them frustrating to use. The wax kind certainly don't have a nice texture and depending on the brand they can often be faded and dull. I came across the Bambino crayons on Instagram and ordered a box out of curiosity, I'm so pleased I did! Firstly I love the tiny animal designs on the wrappers, they are so cute and kids will always notice and appreciate little details like those (I know my nephew will).
Straight away I could tell that the clay crayons are much smoother and more satisfying to use, you don't get those awful clumps that you can with wax. The colours pop brilliantly due to the high quality of pigment and they blend beautifully too. I'm going to buy a bigger box for my nephew for his birthday, I'm sure he's going to love them. (They are also easy to clean and erase which is a huge plus.) Although I'm sure these will be huge favourites with adults too because of their higher quality and large range of colours. Thank you Bambino!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sent photos of their colouring sheets, they are absolutely beautiful! The response to the Colour in Chester and Save Our Zoo sheets was amazing and I'm so glad you enjoyed them. I've had such kind and wonderful feedback from so many people including schools and organisations who have asked to use the designs. It's been brilliant to see how creative and supportive everyone is in our amazing city!

Thank you so much to Cheshire Live and Gemma Sherlock for the lovely articles, the campaigns to Save Chester Zoo were incredible and I cant wait to finally visit the Zoo again with my family in August.

The colouring sheets were downloaded thousands of times which is absolutely amazing and seeing the sheets turned into colourful artworks by everybody was the cherry on the cake. They were so much fun to create and I'm already busy designing more.
Stay safe, keep creative and thank you again!

Save Our Zoo! Colouring Sheet

As you may know already
Chester Zoo is now in great need of our help after the government ordered it to close indefinitely due to Covid-19. In order to keep going, the zoo needs 1.6m each month and visitor income makes up 97% of their overall income. There are over 35,000 threatened and critically endangered animals at Chester Zoo, I strongly believe we all need to play our part in protecting them.

I've always felt that we are so lucky to have this incredible place on our doorstep, I've been a member for many years and seeing all of the support so far it's clear how much the zoo means to so many people. Visiting as a child was always amazing and now having the opportunity to visit regularly with my family, especially with my nephew has made it even more magical.

I've created a free colouring sheet to help us show our support, this is perfect for popping in windows too if you'd like to. If you are able to donate I have also added the links below.

Please spread the word and help us Save Our Zoo!

Colour in Chester

I love the historical city of Chester in Cheshire and feel so proud to live and work here. During the lock down I've realised I'm really missing all of the stunning places and views I've often taken for granted in the past.

This motivated me to create a colouring sheet inspired by our beautiful city featuring iconic landmarks and everything I love about Chester. I also tried to include all of my favourite places, memories and particular things I associate with Chester such as music, history, nature and wildlife. I hope I've included some of your favourites too!

I've know how relaxing and therapeutic these colouring sheets/books can be and creativity can play such a huge part in our mental well being. Pop over to ColorIt to learn more about the benefits of colouring as art therapy and meditation.

You can download lots more colouring sheets from the Hobbycraft website too, simply follow this link.

Waterstones Book Signing

16/7/2014

It was lovely to see a collection of some of the books I have illustrated at the Bedford Waterstones on Saturday at a book signing with author Ruth Whenham. Lots of lovely comments about the illustrations and just after one of the books 'My Crazy Purple Pen' reached no.3 on the Amazon children's ebook charts! Currently working on the third 'Captain Sillyvoice' book and then I will be illustrating a new Christmas book, very exciting!

Wedding Illustrations

Just before Christmas I had the pleasure of designing a suite of wedding stationary for a Christmas themed wedding. I created designs for the invitations, Menu cards, Name place cards, order of service and a large seating plan display. All of which featured illustrations inspired by a valentines card but with a Christmas twist. I was also able to use photos of the wedding dress detail to base my designs on. I have to say I really enjoyed creating these illustrations for the wedding of marketing professional Claire Lake ( now Rose ), she had fabulous ideas which I loved bringing to life through my illustrations. This was the perfect project to work on leading up to Christmas!

Above: Development work

The illustrations combined ornate swirls dripping with delicate Christmas ornaments, organic elements such as leaves and flowers were incorporated into the swirls to create the 'Vines' reminiscent of something from a fairy tale. Traditional Christmas themed designs such as mistletoe, baubles,  doves, reindeer and snowflakes tied in with the vines and gave the designs the 'Christmas twist' we wanted to conjure up.
I was also delighted to receive a selection of photos from the wedding showing the wedding stationary as well as the wedding cake which was inspired by my illustrations and looked absolutely stunning! I have added the photos below I'm sure they wont mind me showing them as the wedding looked so beautiful.....

"Emma created my suite of wedding stationery - invitation, menu cards, name place cards, table plan and front cover of the order of service. She has been incredibly attentive and patient. More, she created some fantastic illustrations for the wedding - all of them sit together as a whole piece of work beautifully. I would highly recommend Emma"
